Breck council gets salary bump

Ordinance passed this week

Print Comment
BRECKENRIDGE — An ordinance that will increase the salaries of the Breckenridge Town councilmembers elected this spring recently passed the second reading with a 5-to-1 vote.

Future elected councilmembers will receive $800 per month, compared to $500 now.

The next mayor will receive $1,200, compared to $800 now, according to the ordinance.

Previously, the councils hadn’t seen a change in compensation in about 12 years. So, the topic came up at a budget retreat in the fall.

Councilmembers felt that increasing the wage would generate more interest in candidates as well as recognize the workload of the job, explained Tim Gagen, town manager, in a previous interview.

Councilmember Dave Rossi voted against the ordinance.
