The Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection recently completed work to digitize more than 1,150 editions of Summit Daily News from mid-November 1994 to January 1998. The editions can be found at ColoradoHistoricNewspapers.org.

The work is part of a multiyear project to digitize Summit Daily News archives from the paper’s inception in 1989 through 2006 and make them available for free to the public in partnership with Summit County Libraries. (Editions from 2007 to present can be found at SummitDaily.com/eedition.)

The full project is expected to cost about $165,000. Summit Daily is partnering on fundraising efforts with Friends of the Summit County Libraries. The Summit Board of County Commissioners has provided a $15,000 grant from the county to help fund the project in its second year in addition to a $10,000 commitment from Summit Daily.

Additional grant support has been provided by Climax Molybdenum, Summit Foundation, Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection, Rotary Club of Summit County and Pinnacle Gives. Individual donors can support the effort by making a contribution at SummitDaily.com/donate. All donations made in 2024 will go directly toward this project.

The Summit Daily News is missing a copy of its first edition from Aug. 21, 1989. If you have a copy of this paper, please reach out to Summit Daily Publisher Nicole Miller at nmiller@summitdaily.com or 970-668-4618.
