Original story

Crashes are causing intermittent highway closures and heavy traffic along Interstate 70 as spring break travelers head to ski resorts across the Western Slope.

Interstate 70 has already seen multiple closures caused by crashes, according to CoTrip.org. A crash on I-70 westbound near Exit 205 in Silverthorne is currently backing up traffic and Colorado Department of Transportation is reporting multiple crashes between Denver and Vail Pass.

U.S. Highway 6 over Loveland Pass is closed due to safety concerns.

Dillon Dam road was also closed for safety concerns.

The storm is expected to bring heavy winds, snow and whiteout conditions.

Traction laws for passenger vehicles are in effect, requiring four-wheel drive with all-weather or snow tires for any vehicle. Vehicles with two-wheel drive must have snow tires or traction devices when traction laws are in effect.

Commercial vehicles must comply with the state’s tire chain laws, which are in effect until late spring.

Failure to comply with traction or tire laws results in hefty fines.

The storm is expected to drop snow across Colorado’s mountains until Sunday, and winter weather advisories are in effect across much of the Western Slope as up to a foot of snow is expected to accumulate.
