The Summit County Library will celebrate the grand opening of the community’s newest third space, the Understory, on Saturday, March 8, from 3-5 p.m., according to a news release.

Part of the South Branch Library, the Understory is located on the lower level of the Breckenridge Grand Vacations Community Center at 103 S. Harris Street in Breckenridge, the release states. The new multipurpose space is part makerspace, part library programming area, part cafe-inspired hangout and is open to all ages, according to the Summit County Library.

Projects, tools and activities available at the Understory include couches for reading; macrame, felting, knitting and crocheting supplies; sewing machines, a Cricut Explore 3 machine; paint and other craft supplies; board and card games; and musical instruments.

Starting March 11, the Understory will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30 p.m.; Fridays from 2-5 p.m. and Saturdays from 1-4 p.m. Projects at the Understory are designed to be self directed. Library staff will be present to answer questions and provide guidance.

Some regular programming, like the Breck Banned Book Club and Silent Meditation, will also meet in the new space in coming months.
