Town of Frisco to host bird migration event as part of dark sky programming

The town of Frisco is inviting community members to the Frisco Adventure Park Day Lodge on Wednesday, April 23, for its first dark sky outreach event.

Frisco and Richard O’Brien with DarkSky Colorado will be leading an educational opportunity for community members to learn about bird migration and the effects of light pollution on migrating birds. As Summit County heads into the peak spring bird migration season, O’Brien will highlight ways to help migratory birds by limiting artificial outdoor lighting.

Light drinks as well as snacks will be provided free of charge for those in attendance. The event is set to begin at 6 p.m.

Staff will be available to answer any questions and provide feedback regarding the International DarkSky Community Certification Frisco is pursuing.

Frisco will host two additional dark sky events, including a Summer Solstice event on June 21 and a Perseid meteor shower event on Aug. 12. To learn more about DarkSky International and the International DarkSky communities certification, visit DarkSky.org.
