Letter to the editor: Summit County, Colorado is a black hole for mail
Silverthorne
Another holiday mail disaster — surprise, surprise — thanks to our beloved Summit County U.S. post offices.
On Dec. 26, my wife had her wallet stolen by an apparent theft ring operating from Target in Silverthorne. We reported the theft on Dec. 26 to the Silverthorne Police Department, and all five of the credit card companies contained in her wallet as well as her bank due to the fact she had checks with her. She now has a new bank account, but here’s where the U.S. Postal Service comes in. After 19 days, we’ve heard from one credit card company. Their card to my wife was sent back due to a bad address. We confirmed the address was correct online. None of the other cards have arrived, and we received no mail for more than a week over the holidays.
Now we must go through the entire process again — new bank account and all new credit cards thanks to our friends at the U.S. Postal Service.
Summit County is a mail black hole and has been for years. When can we expect a level of competence above the Pony Express?
We’re thinking of changing our address to the North Pole where Santa receives all his mail.
