Letter to the editor: Support the fire district’s May 6 ballot measure

Jaime FitzSimons
Summit County Sheriff

As the sheriff of Summit County, I am proud to support the Red, White and Blue Fire Protection District’s May 6 ballot measures. Red, White and Blue is a cornerstone of our community, providing exceptional emergency services to our residents and the many visitors who come to Summit County. Their dedication to the safety and well-being of our community has made them a trusted and reliable partner in public safety.

Red, White and Blue protects a significant portion of our community and serves a diverse population, especially during peak tourism periods. This responsibility requires a well-resourced and sustainable fire, EMS, and community preparedness approach. The funds generated from the May 6 ballot measures will enable Red, White and Blue to continue delivering the critical services that safeguard our residents, protect our economy, and ensure a high quality of life for everyone in Summit County.

The measures proposed are crucial for Red, White and Blue to remain an effective and resilient organization, especially as we face the growing threats of catastrophic wildfire, employee recruitment and retention, and the rising costs of equipment and services. These funds are necessary for maintaining Red, White and Blue’s ability to respond to emergencies, continue its community outreach programs, and attract and retain top-tier talent in a competitive field.

Through collaborative efforts with local agencies such as ours, Red, White and Blue has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to protecting and educating our community. Its proactive approach to safety highlights the department’s dedication to both emergency response and community engagement.

I fully support these measures, as they represent a long-term investment in Summit County’s safety and sustainability. The funds will help ensure that Red, White and Blue can continue its critical work of protecting our residents, visitors, and the local environment. Please join me in supporting the May 6 ballot measures.
