Letter to the editor: Vote ‘yes’ to recall these Dillon Town Council members
Dillon
A recall petition was filed for three Dillon Town Council members due to the sad conclusion that these members have been operating with a private agenda, which they are not sharing with the community. These three keep telling us they know what is best for the town of Dillon, but they won’t tell us what they know.
These three have ignored citizens’ comments, citizens pleading to slow the process, and most importantly, citizens’ votes.
Last October, Dillon voters overwhelmingly voted to overturn these council members’ prior approval of the Branded Residence PUD, and then these three rushed toward approval of another 55′ high building, along with offering a half-acre of prime, town-owned land to this developer in a private-public partnership.
These three have pushed for and voted for the developer to receive approvals for up to $68 million rebated sales/lodging taxes and the creation of substantial extra property tax costs on Dillon residents located in the developer’s newly created metro district — all of which, we believe, will strain Dillon financially.
Some ask, why can’t we let them serve out their terms?
Our answer is: look at the potential financial damage these three have done to our town since taking office. Our town simply cannot afford to have them in office any longer.
These three’s actions in council chambers show us that they are not listening to the people, and they are not acting in our best interest.
Whatever narrative these three represent for their actions, the numbers speak for themselves.
Their voting record to give away our town revenues and town land show that they are not guardians of our town.
It is time for new leadership that truly represents, protects and enhances our community. Please vote “yes” to recall.
